About Therapy

Therapy is the interaction between an individual or individuals and a trained professional who work collaboratively to identify and address feelings, emotions, thoughts, behaviors, and interactions with others.   In therapy, issues are identified and healthy methods of coping are taught, strengthened, and practiced.   It is a safe place to discuss freely the stressors you experience without judgement, and with the goal of improving awareness and quality of life.

Psychotherapy is a process that, with willingness and commitment, will change painful patterns and restore your true self. Psychotherapy uses many tools, including conversation, guided exercises, and take-home work, to understand and alter habitual behaviors and thoughts that cause pain and suffering.

Psychotherapy also helps us to feel feelings, which we may have blocked off for a variety of reasons. Bringing awareness to your thoughts, behaviors and feelings, you will have the capacity to interrupt painful patterns and the ability relate to yourself and others in new, more fulfilling ways.

Meeting regularly with a psychotherapist can help add insight into patterns and narratives which may serve as obstacles to your sense of contentment and wellbeing. Psychotherapy can facilitate greater self-acceptance as well as grow one’s capacity to experience greater joy.

Getting Started

Making the decision to start therapy is a brave and powerful step to take at times when you are feeling vulnerable, experiencing emotional pain, or facing a difficult transition. Whether you are returning to treatment, or considering getting support for the first time, scheduling a phone conversation to discuss your concerns is a great step. I provide psychotherapy both in my office and via teletherapy.
